Financial Controller
About us
Founded in Sydney in 2014, ezyCollect by Sidetrade is Australia's leading Order-to-Cash platform for small and mid-sized businesses. We automate credit management, collections, and payments - taking the manual work out of getting paid. Our 1,100+ customers manage A$19 billion in receivables through the platform, typically cutting late payments by 40% and bad debt by 80% within three months.
Now part of global AI leader Sidetrade, we're scaling our reach across three continents - bringing enterprise-grade technology to the mid-market while staying true to our Sydney roots. We process approximately $100 million per month in payment volume and operate as a subsidiary within a larger international group. Australian innovation. Global ambition.
Why this role exists
We're at a pivotal moment. As a subsidiary of Sidetrade with a growing payments operation processing over $1BN annually, we need robust financial controls, timely reporting, and governance that scales. We also have a major systems migration ahead - moving from Xero to NetSuite - which will transform how we operate financially.
We're hiring a part-time Financial Controller (3-4 days per week) to own day-to-day finance operations, month-end close, and financial reporting for our small, hands-on finance team. This is a high-trust, high-autonomy role focused on governance, reporting discipline, and financial oversight.
You'll lead the accounts team, ensure reliable and accurate financial close and reporting, and play a critical role in successfully delivering and bedding in the NetSuite migration. Once that's complete, you'll help us improve reporting, develop better cost centre visibility, and optimise how we work with our French headquarters.
Your team
You'll lead a small finance team and work closely with the Payments Manager as we scale our operations and platform in the US and Europe,, and liaise regularly with our French headquarters on reporting and finance matters.
The team is hands-on, collaborative, and practical. We value accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement. You'll have autonomy to shape finance processes and reporting as we scale, and you'll be the primary custodian of our financial control environment.
What you'll be doing
Month-End Close & Reporting: Own the full close process across AU/NZ and US entities - consolidated financials, variance analysis vs budget/forecast, and management reporting packs to the CFO.
Team Leadership: Lead and develop the accounts team, overseeing day-to-day operations including invoices, GL entries, and audit-ready documentation.
NetSuite Migration: Lead the migration from Xero to NetSuite - technical setup, data integrity, and optimising the system for long-term efficiency.
Governance & Controls: Maintain balance sheet integrity, oversee reconciliations, revenue recognition, and accounting standards compliance. Lead the external audit and manage internal controls.
Cash, Payroll & Working Capital: Monitor group liquidity, oversee payroll, and supervise AP/AR operations.
Tax & Compliance: Manage income tax, BAS/GST, R&D incentives, and statutory lodgements across jurisdictions. Maintain external advisor relationships.
Reporting & Group Finance: Build better reporting (cost centre, headcount, budget variance) and liaise with French HQ as an effective subsidiary finance function.
What you'll bring
You're CA or CPA qualified. You have 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting, with prior experience as a Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager. You have strong technical accounting and compliance expertise.
Ideally, you have experience with finance system migrations - NetSuite is a plus, and Xero to NetSuite migration experience is ideal. You understand the technical accounting challenges of migrating systems, ensuring data integrity, and optimising new platforms for efficiency.
You're commercially minded with the ability to provide practical financial insights. You don't just report numbers - you provide context, identify trends, and help the business make better decisions. You're comfortable with advanced NetSuite and Excel skills.
Bonus points for experience with payments platforms, B2B SaaS companies, working as a subsidiary within a multinational, and operating in SaaS, technology, or multi-entity environments.
Our finance stack
- Current system: Xero (migrating to NetSuite)
- Future system: NetSuite (you'll lead this migration)
- Entities: AU,NZ and USA consolidation, subsidiary within Sidetrade group
- Team structure: Small, hands-on team (~4 people) with offshore support
